Ramnista has been the signature wine of Kir-Yianni for many years. Furthermore, this modern expression of a centuries-old local grape is widely regarded as the ambassador of Xinomavro from Naoussa.
This dry wine hails from selected blocks of the single vineyard at the Yianakohori Estate.
After three consecutive less successful years, the 2011 vintage sees Xinomavro return to its typical grandeur.
The weather that year helped the grapes reach excellent levels of phenolic maturity with relatively low potential alcohol, which has been the goal for a while.
The crop ripened well and the absence of summer heatwaves was conducive to preserving excellent levels of grape acidity, which, in turn, gave wines with long aging potential.
With vegetal aromas of tomato and olive and earthy characteristics dominating a classy nose accompanied by a palate of red fruits and suave tannins, Ramnista 2011 is a skillfully crafted wine that highlights the staying power of superb Xinomavros and their remarkable transformation over time.
Pre-2011 vintages, including the 1994 maiden release, are kept behind lock and key in the wine library of the Kir-Yianni Estate in Yianakohori.
