Syrah 2001

Syrah is the international variety that suits best the Naoussa terroir. It was planted in the Kir-Yianni Estate in 1987 and was first released as a single-varietal wine with the launch of Kir-Yianni in 1997. Despite its relatively short-lived career, the label “Syrah” has had a large number of fans. Along with “Merlot”, they were the forerunners of the “Dyo Elies” blend, which replaced them with the 2004 vintage in 2006.

2001 was a landmark-year as high temperatures and relative drought in August led to the very good ripening of Syrah. The spicy character of the wine, dominated by black pepper, is exemplified by exotic, intricate violet, plum and leather aromas. The 2001 “Syrah” took the needed time to unveil its greatness. Now, it is available exclusively through Warehouse 10 in a limited number of bottles.
