ASSYRTIKO TARSANAS 2016
Assyrtiko, the emblematic Greek grape variety originally from Santorini and internationally recognized, finds a distinctive mainland expression in the high-altitude terroir of Amyndeon in northwestern Greece.
On the hill of Samaropetra, in the vineyard site known as “Tarsanas” – a name inspired by the traditional small shipyards– Assyrtiko was planted in 2004, making it one of the earliest and oldest plantings of the variety in the area.
Following 12 years of experimentation and careful viticultural work, Assyrtiko Tarsanas was first released in limited number of bottles with the 2016 vintage as a wine that reflects the uniqueness of its micro-terroir. It matured for 8 months in new French oak barrels, gaining structure, complexity, and depth of character.
Today, after 9 years of bottle aging, the wine continues to evolve, maintaining its signature acidity while developing impressive depth and layered complexity. A clear showcase of Assyrtiko’s aging potential in a continental climate.
